Mayer Hawthorne releases his long-awaited third album “Where Does This Door Go” on July 15th. The album features a host of top producers, including Jack Splash (Cee-Lo Green and Alicia Keys), Oak & Pop (Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj) and work from the legendary Pharrell Williams. The first single “Her Favorite Song”, is released on July 8thand has already clocked up over 250k plays on SoundCloud. Mayer gave a little taste of what’s to come when he leaked the boogie-funk homage “Designer Drug”. In addition, the album also boasts a sizzling collaboration with hip-hop’s biggest star of the moment, Kendrick Lamar.

After releasing his debut album “A Strange Arrangement” on Stones Throw Records, his second album “How Do You Do” reached #7 in the US iTunes Chart. “How Do You Do” quickly garnered critical praise from the media and fellow musicians, including Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, John Mayer, Snoop Dogg and more. The album, with its throwback to classic, soulful Motown sounds featured a collaboration with British duo Rizzle Kicks, on the UK version.

Mayer’s last trip to the UK saw him play at The Scala in London, a show which sold out in minutes. He returns to the UK this summer, playing at London’s annual Hard Rock Calling Festival on June 28th, and his own headline show at London’s XOYO on July 3rd, as part of his European tour. Mayer has also announced a summer tour supporting OneRepublic in the US.

Tokyo, Japan: June 14, 2013, Today SWEET SOUL RECORDS, parent company LIFESOUND, Inc., officially announced that an agreement has been reached with 4E Entertainment for nationwide distribution of the debut album “Finding My Way,” by the talented singer-songwriter Gabriel Tajeu.

Gabriel was raised listening to all types of music from Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, to Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, and then in his teenage years he began listening to R&B legends, everyone from Luther Vandross to Brian McKnight. It is R&B that has had the largest influence on his music. From the way he sings, the phrasing, and the types of chord progressions and structure that he hears are all influenced heavily by the genre. Gabriel says, “It is the music that I found late in my college years and recently that has had the most profound impact on my current musical ventures.”

“Musicians like Ben Harper, Ryan Adams, Van Hunt, Joni Mitchell, Amos Lee, and Elvis Costello have begun to creep into my consciousness. The way they write music is completely different than the R&B artists I grew up listening to… their lyrical sensibility, rock and roll affect, and sometimes unpredictable song structure is something that I am trying to incorporate into my music and aspire to as a songwriter,” continued Gabriel who describes his new music as “R&B, Folk, Rock.”

While Gabriel was recording his debut album, a collection of folk, rock and R&B tunes called “Finding My Way,” at the same time he was working on a doctorate in public health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Clearly, he’s an expert at multi-tasking, devoting himself to two demanding projects at the same time. When he’s not immersed in academia, he produces original songs and performs them at area nightclubs (such as Rogue Tavern and Bottletree) and festivals. He also fronts the cover band Bonus Round, playing at weddings, corporate events and local venues such as Marty’s and Ona’s Music Room, both hugely popular Birmingham venues.

Ask him about the origins of “Finding My Way,” and Gabriel references philosopher Cornel West, who has said, “I’m a bluesman moving through a blues-soaked America, a blues-soaked world, a planet where catastrophe and celebration — joy and pain sit side by side.”

“Finding My Way” will be released Japan-wide by SWEET SOUL RECORDS on July 14, 2013 in partnership with distributor BBQ Records, and contains 12 moving tracks plus three unplugged bonus tracks.

Sly and the Family Stone

The music of Sly & The Family Stone is celebrated with a new 4-CD box set, Higher!, available everywhere August 27th through Epic/Legacy, a division of Sony Music Entertainment.  Released in celebration of Sly Stone’s 70th birthday, Higher! is the first career-spanning anthology to celebrate the musician whose funk has influenced everyone from Miles Davis and Michael Jackson to Public Enemy and the Roots.  Housed in a colorful slipcase with a lavishly-illustrated 104-page book, the box set will feature 77 tracks, 17 of them previously unreleased.

Spotlighted throughout the first three CDs of Higher! are rare mono single masters of every classic Sly & The Family Stone signature hit like they’ve never been heard before in the digital era.  Paying homage to the golden age of transistor radios are mono versions of “Dance To the Music,” “Everyday People,” “Stand!,” “I Want To Take You Higher,” “Hot Fun In the Summertime,” “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again),” and many others, more than 30 mono single masters and mono album cuts that were a call-out to get up and dance, dance, dance.  Decades after the chart debut of Sly & The Family Stone with the game-changing “Dance To The Music,” fans and newcomers will have the opportunity to dig into this far-reaching anthology, covering the recording career of Sylvester Stewart starting in 1964, and the band he master­minded from 1966 to 1977 on Epic Records.

Jahmene Douglas is set to release his debut album Love Never Fails through RCA on July 22nd, this will coincide with the single release Titanium.

There is something extraordinary about Jahmene Douglas. It’s not just his soul skimming voice that reaches from the very core of him to cause tingles in your heart. The beautiful voice comes from a beautiful soul.

When he first hit The X Factor screens last year there was a quietness about him, he seemed shy. But it wasn’t long before we realised that the former Asda shelf stacker was not so much shy as quietly strong. As he explains: ‘I know I seem shy, but singing was my therapy, my outlet, my release. It was how I could be just me. First of all it would be singing to Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley. Just singing at the top of my voice. It’s a way of zoning out and making you strong. The singing became my sanctuary when I was growing up’

Jahmene has always related to great voices because his own great voice was always his creative outlet. ‘For a lot of the time I was home schooled. I would draw, and write poetry. I like whatever I could do to be creative but singing was my thing, it kept me calm.’

His first album is a collection of songs that he has made ‘jahmazing’ and flavoured with his own soul. Just hearing it you almost don’t have to ask which singer has influenced him most. ‘It would have to be Whitney Houston. Her interpretation was always incredible. She knew when to make it big. She knew when to make it small. I also love Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross.’

Appearing on Love Never Fails alongside Jahmene is his X-Factor mentor Nicole Scherzinger, performing the song they sang together during the final, The Greatest Love Of All:  ‘Nicole knew this would be one of my favourite songs, and when she sang it with me on the final it was like singing with my big sister. She’s so incredibly talented. This song and Nicole ooze class.’

The Isle of Man Festival in association with MTV, a brand new festival for 2013! An exciting line up of artists will travel North to invade the little Island floating in The North Sea, between Belfast and The Lake District, best known for it’s beautiful landscapes and the wild annual Motorbike TT Championships. One of the first major art events of the summer will showcase 5th Avenue of the Arts literally moving in new directions, starting with this historic block being converted into a 2-way thoroughfare. In addition, the new Streetscape between Church and Union will be unveiled featuring aesthetic and technological improvements; First Saturday Art Crawl will be expanded with more artistic experiences and more venues participating; and Mayor Karl Dean will be on hand to unveil the newly designed art block by turning on the street’s innovative one-of-a-kind draped lights (approximately 5:15PM)! Illuminating the street’s visionary influence, 5th Avenue of the Arts is moving forward in the 21st Century.

Streetscape Unveiled

The streetscape will feature 16 new 30-foot light poles with a one-of-a-kind light canopy stretching across the street, enhancing nightlife for this artistic district. The sidewalks have been expanded to accommodate sidewalk dining, and the direction of the street is being converted to 2-way traffic to allow for better traffic flow and easier accessibility to the art galleries and culinary venues. 5th Avenue of the Arts will serve as a beacon for the business visitors at the new Music City Center, as well as Nashville residents.

Poverty Level members are lead singer Phillip Bridges, guitar players John “JD” Hopkins and Mason Coates, and drummer Craig Clontz. Hopkins also plays fiddle, and is the band’s primary songwriter. Bridges, Hopkins, and Clontz have been together as part of the band since 2009, with Coates joining them in 2011. All of the band members originally hail from western Virginia and moved together to the Atlanta area last year to pursue their musical ambitions. The band has established a great reputation and solid local following with their groovy rock-jam style of Americana, featuring great vocal harmonies and sizzling string work throughout.

“We have been working long and hard toward this moment, and are thrilled to be able to take the next steps forward with Highway 9,” said Poverty Level’s Bridges. “Highway 9 offers the skills, resources, effort, and perspective we need to share our music with more of the world than we have been able to do on our own. Poverty Level will record much of their music under their agreement with Highway 9 Records at Lucky Dog Studios in Alpharetta, GA. The band will also employ the assistance of both Highway 9 Record’s Heber Pampillon (Mother Nature’s Son, Kickin’ Valentina) and John Maskew (Grammy-award winning audio engineer on ‘Ah Yeah’, a song on Robert Glasper’s 2012 album “Black Radio”) on certain tracks.
